The McDONNELL DOUGLAS F-4 Phantom II began it's career in 1958, developed primarily for fleet defence for the US NAVY. Its adaptability and effectiveness however lead to roles in air superiority, ground attack and reconnaissance. In 1965 the US AIR FORCE sent its version of the aircraft to Vietnam where it gained its reputation as a Mig killer.
Though out of the course of its 23 years old of production, the F-4 established 16 speed, altitude and time to climb records.
In total 5195 Phantoms where created, making it the most produced supersonic military aircraft in American history.
After its tour of service in the Gulf war, the United States retired the Phantom in 1996, after 35 years of active service. Despite this, the Phantom still remains a combat ready aircraft for a handful of countries worldwide.
Just received my very first 9wingspirit tag - McDONNELL DOUGLAS RF-4 Phantom II - and it is amazing! It's the Exterior White Stenciled Red and I couldn't have gotten a better tag for my first! Thanks so much 9wingspirit!
